-To increase your demesne size you can open the file located in common folder named "defines.lua" and edit in notepad the line "DEMESNE_BASE_MAX_SIZE = 1.0" but this will also affect the AI. Best method however is to just add very large amounts of stewardship to your character with the add_stewardship command described above.
Here is a table of the values required to achieve a certain increase in demesne limit relative to the limit you would have without Gavelkind and with 0 stewardship (note that this is different from the stewardship bonus, since the actual stewardship bonus is multiplied by 1.3 in the case of Gavelkind):

Solution 4: ....Peaceful discussion? Once per generation, you may change your inheritance laws. If all of your immediate vassals have a positive opinion of you, and they aren't at war with each other, and you've ruled for at least 10 years, then just change your inheritance law to something else. Primogeniture requires High crown authority, but you should always be able to get Elective. (Elective has its own troubles, but you should be okay for at least this one generation.) Primogeniture is the easiest succession law to control, but your pretenders will dislike you (a net -50 opinion penalty!), and you'll lose the +5 opinion bonus you had with your other vassals, but it's (usually) better than splitting up your lands. Also, switching out of gavelkind will reduce your demesne size a bit.
Conquering becomes much less fun if you're already at your demesne limit, and you immediately have to give away the spoils of war, else be smacked with huge relationship penalties. I prefer a softer more gradual limit on demesne size that focuses on managing the relations with your subjects.* Demesne limit significantly increased, for all intents and purposes removing it as a game mechanic.* Only -1 relations per holding over demesne. Much smaller tax penalty.* No relationship penalties apply for holding more than 2 duchies.
Paradox added a negative levy modifier to holdings the further they were away from your capital duchy, to slow down blobbing. RIP makes some modifications:* Capital kingdom vassals still give 100% of their levy. This change in fact creates stronger AI opponents.* Within-empire vassals give 50% of levy. Outside empire it's 35%.* Your own demesne now gets the same levy modifier.* To compensate, four buildings have been added, Estates General I to IV, unlocked by the Tolerance tech, increasing levy size. They can be built in holdings which fall outside your capital kingdom, but of which you still hold the de jure kingdom/empire title. 2ff7e9595c
